Disabling Windows XP's built-in firewall

These instructions are for personally-owned computers only. To turn off the firewall, you must have administrator rights on your computer.  You will not be able to disable the firewall on Bryn Mawr College public computers.

Open the Control Panel by clicking on it in the Start Menu. Depending on the layout you are using in XP, the link may be found under Settings, or in the Start Menu.

Double click the Network Connections icon

Find the Local Area Connection icon and right click on it. This should bring up a menu. From this menu, select Status.

Click the Properties button.

At the top of the window that appears, click the Advanced tab.

One of the options in the Advanced window is called Internet Connection Firewall. Make sure this option is unchecked.

Restart the computer and try the Quicktime links again. If this process does not work, it may be necessary to listen to the LLC's streaming media files in the Language Learning Center or at a Bryn Mawr public computer.
